Merzouga → Lake → Khamlia → Mifis → Nomad Area → Hassi Labied → Merzouga
Your driver picks you up at your hotel or camp in the morning. The first stop is Dayet Srji, a lake that fills with water after the winter rains. When it is full, pink flamingos sometimes visit. Then you drive to Khamlia, a village whose people came across the Sahara from West Africa many generations ago. In a simple house, the Gnawa musicians play the deep three-string guembri and the iron qraqeb, and often invite you to dance.
In the afternoon you drive into the black hamada to visit a nomad family. They will offer you tea and bread baked in the sand, and show you how they live with their goats and camels. Then you see the old lead mines of Mifis, where miners once worked by hand, and finish at the palm grove of Hassi Labied before returning to Merzouga at sunset.
