Part 01
Full day (about 6–7 hours)
Morning with the nomads
Your first stop is a nomad camp. These families still move with their goats and camels to find grass and water. Their tent is made of dark goat hair, and inside you will be offered sweet mint tea and bread. They do not have much, but they share it with a big smile.
At lunchtime you ride into Khamlia, a small village with a big story. The people of Khamlia are Gnawa, and their families came across the Sahara from West Africa long ago. Their music is deep and hypnotic: the big three-string guembri, the clapping metal qraqeb and voices singing old songs. You eat a warm lunch in a local house while the musicians play. Do not be shy — they love when guests dance.
