The journey

Quad Biking and Buggy in Merzouga overview

For many travellers, the most exciting hour in Merzouga is on a quad bike or in a buggy. You ride over soft dunes and across open plains, with the wind in your face and a local guide leading the way.

You can choose a quad, which is a four-wheel motorbike for one or two people, or a buggy, which is a small open car with a roll cage, perfect for couples and families. Rides go from one hour to a full day. Longer rides reach quieter parts of the desert, far from the camps.

Helmets and goggles are included, and your guide adapts the speed to your level.

Option 1

Erg Chebbi dunes

Quad Biking Adventure in Merzouga

Your guide meets you at the quad station at the edge of the dunes. After a short lesson on how to start, stop and turn, you put on your helmet and goggles and follow the guide into the sand. The first minutes are on flat ground, so you feel comfortable before the dunes begin.

Then the fun starts: up and down the soft dunes, along their sharp ridges and across wide sandy valleys. On longer rides you reach quieter parts of Erg Chebbi, where you stop on a high dune for photos with nothing but sand to the horizon. Sunset rides are the most beautiful.

Option 2

Erg Chebbi & desert plains

Buggy Adventure in Merzouga

A buggy is a small open car with seat belts and a roll cage. It is perfect if you prefer to sit side by side, or if you travel with children. Your guide drives first or rides ahead, and you follow his tracks over the plains and into the dunes.

The buggy is stable on the sand and powerful on the slopes, so you can enjoy the speed and the views at the same time. A full-day buggy tour can go around Erg Chebbi, with stops at the Gnawa village of Khamlia and a nomad camp.

Frequently asked questions

Do I need a driving licence?

No licence is needed for a quad or buggy in the desert. Your guide gives you a lesson before you start.

Can children join?

Children can ride as passengers in a buggy or on a quad with an adult.

Is the tour private?

Yes. Every tour we organise is private. The car, the driver and the plan are only for you and the people you travel with.

When is the best time to go?

October to May is the most comfortable. In summer the days are very hot, so we start early and rest in the afternoon. Winter nights in the desert are cold, so bring a warm layer.
